CHARLESTON — Vermont State police say skeletal remains found in Charleston last week are those of a young man who disappeared in 2006.
Police notified the family of Nathan Currie on Wednesday.
It has not been determined how or why he died.
"The medical examiner wasn't able to find anything with those remains that would allow him to classify the death," said Vermont State Police Detective Lt. J.P. Sinclair.
The 18-year-old was reported missing by his family in July 2006. On Friday, a hunter found what he thought were human remains in the woods.
The office of the chief medical examiner in Burlington analyzed the bones and on Wednesday positively identified them as Currie's.
Since Currie's disappearance, police have received numerous leads, Sinclair said.
The match helps police to narrow their focus in the investigation into Currie's death, he said.
