Vermonters can't afford gas tax

Regards Sen. Spaulding's wishes to raise the states' tax on diesel fuel and gas: With the economy the way it is, we the working people have been squeezed until there is little left. He wants to now take the rest, by raising this tax, when gas is becoming affordable again.
I submit, clean your house first. Plug the hemorrhaging of state governments' waste and waste in the various agencies, like junkets here and there. We have facilities and hotels in Vermont without flying around the country, for example.
Have the leadership of the various state agencies and positions give up their perks and expense accounts, as leadership begins at the top. Remember you are not to the manner born.
When this can be done, then come talk to we, the people, about a tax increase of any kind, should the state still need the money then.
But don't take the easy way out and simply raise any taxes. We get enough of that in Washington, D.C. We expect better of our "elected officials," or we should.
