MIDDLESEX – Richard W. Duprey, 68, of Route 12 in Middlesex, died Thursday Nov. 27, 2008, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. He was born in Northfield on Sept.14, 1940, the son of Ernest and Elizabeth (Hathaway) Duprey Jr. They later divorced and Richard was raised by his mother and stepfather, Clifton Dodge Sr.
Richard graduated from Montpelier High School and was employed by the Agency of Transportation for 37 years, rising from an entry level mechanic to Fleet Operations Supervisor. He had overseen the implementation of a sophisticated Fleet Management System and the promotion of cost-effective preventive maintenance practices.
He served with the Vermont National Guard for two years and was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Richard married Gloria Murray on Nov. 1, 1985 in Middlesex. He was a loving husband and devoted father to his children, who were his world.
He is survived by his wife Gloria and daughters Katelyn Duprey of Middlesex and Kimberly Duprey, a student at Southern Vermont College in Bennington; sisters Ruth LaFreniere of Montpelier, Georgia O'Brien and her husband Charles of Waterbury, Cecilia Sprague and her husband Bill of Weld, Maine, Linda Simpson of Montpelier, Christine Abair of Waterbury; and brother Dean Dodge of Middlesex.
He was predeceased by his mother and stepfather.
Honoring his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Calling hours were Sunday, Nov. 30 from 2-4 p.m. at the Barber and Lanier Funeral Home, 139 Main St, Montpelier, VT.
