BELLOWS FALLS — The village of Bellows Falls, which hopes to tap geothermal power from underground its bedrock, is putting off an investigation into how to harness it.
A consultant who was paid $5,000 to identify would-be well locations says it would cost $70,000 more to find out how hot the subterranean water is and how much heat it could produce for buildings if tapped.
Meddie Perry, senior hydrogeologist with VHB-Pioneer, says he's sure there's enough energy to heat and cool individual buildings but maybe not enough to run a municipal utility.
Village Trustee Stefan Golec supports the idea, but doesn't want to commit any more taxpayer money without being certain it would pay off.
