DERBY – Vermont State Police said Friday that a hunter discovered what he thought to be human skeletal remains in a wooded area in the town of Charleston.

The remains were found about 1:30 p.m., according to police.

Police from the Derby barracks responded and recovered human skeletal remains from the site, to include a human skull. The race, gender and identity of the remains are unknown at this time, police said.

A more detailed search of the area is planned for today. The recovered remains will be analyzed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Vermont Forensic Laboratory.

DNA testing will be attempted to determine if the remains are that of Nathan Currie, a Charleston resident who has been missing.
