In support of Roe v. Wade

Once again, I will get on my high horse and take issue with the Catholic stance on Roe v. Wade. The recent article in the Times Argus, "Catholic Bishops vow to fight Obama on Abortion," (Nov. 12) makes it clear that they, the bishops, are going to fight to go back to the old ways for women to have abortions.
What are you talking about, you ask?
Come on now, think back before Roe v. Wade. Women have had abortions since time began. The difference is that now they are safe. No more deaths from botched abortions, no more disfigured babies or the inability of women to have more children because of the botched abortion.
I am 89 years old and I remember quite well the whispering that went on when a woman felt she did not want to have another child. Maybe because she had had too many, or the family could not afford another, or the woman might have been unmarried (horrors). Although the last reason no longer seems to exist (the disgrace, that is), all the others are still valid reasons not to have another child.
Well, the whispering usually was to inform the woman involved of someone that someone knew who would help with an abortion, like a close relative, or a friend, or a friend of a friend, etc. Many times this resulted in the botched abortion mentioned above.
I think it so strange that those against safe abortions seem to feel that abortions started with the passage of Roe v. Wade.
Wake up, and smell the manure, all you right-to-lifers. Abortion always existed and will continue to exist, only, if you have your way, women will again be open to death, disfigurement, or inability to conceive.
