MONTPELIER — Dennise Casey has been appointed deputy chief of staff for Gov. James Douglas, the governor's office announced Wednesday.

Douglas said Casey's duties will include, among other things, coordinating the administration's legislative relations.

"Dennise is smart, energetic and understands the important work we have before us," the governor said in a release. "I have every confidence in her and her ability to help make this legislative session a success as we work to pass an economic growth plan in the first 100 days, balance our budget in very challenging times and enact comprehensive safe communities' legislation."

Casey, 27, is native of Starksboro, a 2003 graduate of the University of Vermont and a long time member of Douglas' senior staff.

She has previously served as special assistant to the governor and Secretary of Civil and Military Affairs. She has also managed the governor's 2006 and 2008 re-election campaigns.
