HYDE PARK (AP) — Prosecutors say a Wolcott man charged with killing his neighbor eight years ago has been found competent to stand trial.
Fifty-eight-year-old Dennis Tribble, who has repeatedly fired his defense attorneys, is scheduled to go on trial in early February.
He has pleaded not guilty to a charge of shooting 43-year-old Michael Borello following a confrontation.
If the case goes forward, it will Tribble's second trial.
After firing three attorneys before his first trial, a judge ordered him to represent himself. He boycotted the trial and was convicted of first-degree murder. But the Vermont Supreme Court reversed the verdict, saying having Tribble represent himself violated constitutional standards.
