PLAINFIELD – The Vermont Alliance for Arts Education (VAAE) will host a special town meeting, during its fall conference, on Wednesday, Oct 1, at 7:30 p.m. The conference, titled "Leap of Faith: The Future of Arts Education in Vermont," will be held at Goddard College. The town meeting will focus on the future sustenance and support of arts education in our schools, and what it means for the development of an imaginative and creative workforce. According to theorists like Daniel Pink, those students who have excelled in imaginative and creative thinking will become the most attractive workers for corporations across the United States. For Pink, a fully supported and executed arts curriculum in every school will help educators, administrators and business leaders help students in meeting those desired outcomes. Joseph Clifford, chair of the board for VAAE and the outreach and education manager for the Hopkins Center for the Performing Arts at Dartmouth College, will be the moderator. Guest speakers will be Paul Costello from the Vermont Council on Rural Development, which is undertaking its own study of the future of Vermont, Alex Aldrich, executive director of the Vermont Arts Council, Jonathan Silverman, Coordinator of Arts in Education at St. Michael's College, Gail Kilkelly, coordinator for the Arts and World Languages at the Vermont Department of Education and Melinda Moulton, owner and developer of Main Street Landing in Burlington.

The town meeting is free and open to the public. For further information, call Tom Stevens, executive director of VAAE, (802) 244-1314, or go online to www.vaae.org.
