DUXBURY – Dick Moser could soon be back at the helm of the Washington West Supervisory Union.

More than 17 years after Moser left his job as superintendent of the six-town, seven-school supervisory union the Waitsfield resident has been selected as the interim replacement for retiring Washington West Superintendent Robert McNamara.

Ann Griffin, chairwoman of the 21-member supervisory union board, confirmed late Tuesday night that the board agreed to "pursue a contract" with Moser.

"He (Moser) will be offered a one-year contract," Griffin said of the unanimous decision that was reached following a pair of interviews conducted earlier in the evening.

"He (Moser) has outstanding credentials," Griffin said. "It was pretty much an overwhelming pick."

Moser served as superintendent at Washington West from 1986 to 1990 before leaving to take a similar job in Chelmsford, Mass. He served as superintendent there for 17 years before returning to Vermont.

Moser was one of two semi-retired administrators in the running for the interim position. The other was Gail Conley, whose duties as interim superintendent in Barre will be up June 30 – the same day McNamara will step down after four years at the helm of a supervisory union that is anchored by Harwood Union High School and includes the towns of Waitsfield, Warren, Waterbury, Duxbury, Fayston, and Moretown.
