MONTREAL – The Vermont Frost Heaves allowed a season-low 69 points and put forth a stifling defensive performance in a 90-69 win over the Montreal Royal in American Basketball Association action in Montreal on Friday.
"It was a great defensive effort in the second half," Vermont coach Will Voigt said. "It was 47-41 at the half, and we outscored them 24-8 in the third quarter and never looked back from there."
All of the Frost Heaves who made the trip to Montreal made it into the scorebook, with Dokun Akingbade leading the way with 18 points and nine rebounds.
"We played everybody," Voigt said. "And in the ABA, even a 20-point lead isn't safe. It was a balanced attack again."
Antonio Burks added 12 points and six rebounds, BJ Robertson and Issa Konare both scored 10 points, and Terrance Green and Dwuan Rice each tallied nine points. Green, a point guard, grabbed 13 rebounds.
"It was really a focus of ours after the Manchester game," Voigt said of his team's defense. "Even with the win, we felt defensively we were sloppy, and we were able to get in some good practices and (focus on the defense) and the guys were tremendous."
Vermont (11-2) will host the Quebec City Kebekwa this today at Burlington's Memorial Auditorium at 2 p.m.
