GIRLS BASKETBALL

Twinfield 64, Richford 24

PLAINFIELD – Twinfield built a 23-piont halftime lead and never let up on Saturday, keying a 64-24 girls basketball victory over Richford.

Vanessa Powers paced the Trojans with 21 points, six steals, five rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Teammate Camille DuPont finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Nealsa Welch tallied eight points. Betsy Martin picked up six points, six assists and three steals.

"Betsy Martin doesn't score a lot of points, but she runs that point and gets the ball where it needs to be," Twinfield coach Deb Rathburn said. "Almost all of Vanessa's points were on layups, and that was because her and Betsy just pushed the ball so well.

Despite lopsided final score, Twinfield only led 17-8 after the first quarter.

"It was our first home game, and we had just done a huge 1,000-point banner presentation for eight different scorers since 1968," Rathburn said. "The warmups were broken up a bit, so it took them a little while to settle in."

Twinfield improves to 1-0 and will travel to play Mid-Vermont Christian Academy in Quechee on Wednesday.

Twinfield's J.V. team won, 40-11.
