Call and oppose FCC proposal

FCC Commissioner Kevin J. Martin won't be in the Thanksgiving parade, but he plans to play the Grinch this holiday season. On Dec. 11, Martin will hand control of most U.S. news media to giant corporations unless the U.S. Senate passes a bill to halt him at once.
Martin plans to rush through the same media-consolidation plan Americans rejected in 2003. He is simply refusing to permit the standard 90-day public comment period for his proposed rule changes.
But Republicans and Democrats both oppose Martin, and have drafted a measure to require that the FCC allows the full 90 days to take public comment. That's the public-comment period that defeated this hand-over plan four years ago. To defeat his warmed-over hand-over this year, Congress needs to act now.
Call Sen. Leahy (800-642-3193), Sen. Sanders (800-339-9834) and Rep. Welch (888-605-7270) today to ask them to support S.2332. Then get in touch with friends and family in other states, asking them to call members of Congress from their districts in support of this bipartisan bill to give Americans the last word on who controls our news media.
We refused to let corporations take over independent, locally owned newspapers, radio and TV stations four years ago, and we can do it again!
