• Sanders is wrong: Cause of warming unknown
    June 10,2007

Even though I am proud of Sen. Bernard Sanders, I fear his new office may have made him out of touch with the state of climate science related to global warming. His position on global warming is, "In my view, the debate about global warming is over. The International Panel on Climate Change, consisting of over 2,000 scientists from over 100 countries, has reached a unanimous conclusion that global warming is real, and concluded with 90 percent certainty that global warming is man-made."

The debate about global warming is not over. The "unanimous conclusion" of the IPCC is as scientific as the unanimous belief once held regarding the sun revolving around the Earth.

According to Dr. Richard Lindzen, a professor of atmospheric science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, large carbon dioxide increases have come after temperature increases, the opposite of the carbon dioxide theory of global warming. The Earth has been warming since about 1800, but the greenhouse gas theories do not account for this. In other words, the real causes of global warming are not known. Dr. Lindzen is not the only scientist saying this. There are as many scientists as you want to talk to at www.climateaudit.org and www.realclimate.org.

I am just one Joe in the public, but Sanders is a key leader of our state and nation. We cannot afford for him to continue making false statements about such important science.

I wrote to Sanders, who replied with a form letter thanking me and stating that I would hear from him soon about my question. Previously, such letters from him have been followed promptly with specific responses. This case is the exception. All of a sudden, I cannot get through to Sanders. No further information has come.

Sen. Sanders, the truth about global warming calls. The truth is, we don't know what is causing it. You need to check it out.
