When will Vermont adopt Jessica's Law?

Published: January 17, 2007

This letter was addressed to Gov. Douglas: I am writing you for the second time in reference to Jessica's Law, which is needed in this state. The first time I wrote you was concerning the case Judge Cashman presided over. I am writing you a second time over the recent events in Bennington regarding a 4-year-old boy being sexually assaulted 10 times and the perp gets off with probation. This is a sick, horrendous crime, and yet the lawmakers in Vermont set on their hands and argue over Wal-Mart, wind towers, and other things of lesser value than our children. What is going on in this state? I urge you to do something. I would like a response about what Vermont is doing to correct this injustice.

Unfortunately, the balance of power in Montpelier among those who actually make the laws is not in Governor Douglas' favor. He, himself, does not MAKE the laws, rather he signs them into effect, or not, as the case may be. So far, the Prog/Dem legislature refuses to take on this issue, in fact, the "informed" voters of Rutland removed the leading proponent of Jessica's law from office. Smart! rolleyes

As long as people in this state continue to elect in ever increasing numbers the Prog/Dem folks who care more for the rights of the predators than the children they prey on, we will, continue to garner our headlines in the national press and it will not be entirely undeserved.

Yes, I would certainly encourage the Governor to play hardball as much as he is able in that both chambers have veto-proof majorities. I would also encourage voters out there to pay attention to who is really looking out for your children, and who is simply mucking up the works, and remember this in 2008.
