MONTREAL — The Vermont Frost Heaves added a game to the schedule this week, an additional game on a road trip to Montreal.
The host Matrix might wish they hadn't bothered.
The Heaves ran away from a tight game at the half to a 112-71 American Basketball Association victory. The game was 43-40 in favor of Vermont at the half, but the Frost Heaves opened with a 13-0 run. A 19-2 start to the fourth quarter sealed the deal against Montreal.
"(At halftime) I never raised my voice and never used profanity," Heaves coach Will Voigt said. "I was obviously disappointed. It starts with how hard we play. We have to bring it and we did in the second half."
All 12 of the Heaves scored with Antonio Burks leading the way with 21 points. Tyrone Levett tossed in 15 points and Aaron Cook had 12. Bob Miller had 16 points to lead Montreal.
The win pushed Vermont's division-leading record to 10-2. The Frost Heaves' next home game has been changed. Originally scheduled to meet the Brooklyn Wonders on Thursday in Burlington, Vermont will instead host the Newark Express in a 7 p.m. game.
The Frost Heaves play three consecutive games in Barre to end the 2006 half of the season, host Quebec City on Dec. 22 and the Cape Cod Frenzy on Dec. 30 and Dec. 31. The Heaves announced Saturday that the Northfield Savings Bank 13th players for the Dec. 22 and 30 games will be former UVM women's basketball star Libby Smith (Dec. 22) and former Spaulding basketball and football star David Ball (Dec. 30).
